Journal Entry 6

Jello,
Day 4 - Driving to Portland - 10:45 AM
Now that I am conscious and not on the verge of falling asleep, i can write more about last night.
It was interesting to see that a lot of homeless people don't want to be off the streets. And just because they don't have a house doesn't mean that they don't have a community/home. So for them to get a house would mean separating themselves from their families and maybe betraying them. Homeless people don't want that.
Also, a lot of them are comfortable without a home. They don't feel "homeless" just house-less.
We also ran into runaways (two girls) who promptly denied that they were homeless.
The homeless people (or a lot of them) have jobs and get their G.E.D's and stuff. But, instead of going and getting their GED in 4-5 months, they draw it out to like 2 years. They reminded me of the Navajos in that way.
I'm so glad that our group has come together in Christ. Without Christ i'm sure we'd be dysfunctional, but with him we've become united for His kingdom.
Today we're going to Downtown Portland to do some activities and hang out. We'll probably go to Powells since we didn't get to do that yesterday. I'm pretty excited about that. Also, tonight is street church! So that's way cool too.
God has been teaching me so much about going to him for everything and really doing the crazy stuff that only he can accomplish. I want to live in Portland and work with Father's House and TY and homeless people. Jesus guide me.
